The apprenticeship process — who does what?

Employer
  1. Selects an apprentice.
  2. Chooses their preferred Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP), and chooses a Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO).
  3. Pays the apprentice a wage while they're training.
  4. Delivers on-the-job training as negotiated in the training plan.

  1. Develops the training plan with the employer and apprentice.
  2. Provides facilities, supervision, and training services required under the training plan.
  3. Arranges additional learning support as required.
  4. Issues the qualification upon successful completion.

  1. Provides advice on training options.
  2. Conducts employer and apprentice inductions, detailing rights and obligations under each training contract.

Workplace

Drop in days

Funding options

User choice

The User Choice 2017-20 program provides a public funding contribution towards the cost of training and assessment services for eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees. The program aims to provide funding aligned to industry skills needs and shortages.

Back to work

Back to Work is a state government initiative designed to give businesses the confidence to employ regional jobseekers. Employer Support and Youth Boost payments are available to employers who meet all the program eligibility criteria.

Free apprenticeships for under 21s

If you employ an apprentice or trainee under the age of 21 in one of 139 high priority qualifications, the training fees associated with their study will be covered by the Queensland Government (conditions apply).

Australian Apprenticeships Incentive Program

The Australian Government provides a number of incentives to assist employers who take on an Australian apprentice. Incentives payments are made when apprentices commence, recommence, and complete their training.

Trade Skills and Assessment Gap Training (TSAGT)

TSAGT aims to assess the skills of experienced individuals who can demonstrate substantial competency in a priority trade qualification. The Queensland Government will fund most of the recognition of prior learning (RPL) and gap training costs.
